Manifestations of working in an English Institute

1. You call people "teach" even if its a verb.

2. Your life lines are "Do you have plans this weekend?" and "How was you weekend?".

3. You learn things such as "international age" and that age can also have a nationality (Korean age).

4. You have a lot of Korean key chains.

5. You learn to appreciate korny jokes because of their value in killing time and sometimes it's the only one that works.

6. You refer to your "course" as "major" and "college" as "university".

7.You realize why soccer is a religion.

8. You made up a lot of stories and told a lot of lies.

9. You start thinking about your Korean name.

10. You think that Lee Kim Park is a good band name.

11. You start to like kimchi.

12. You get over your claustophobia.

13. You want to buy your own mp3 player.

14. You meet Von Dutch and Polham everywhere.

15. You think not taking a bath is not that bad.

16. You check your email everyday.

17. You realize why Americans get a tan.

18. You can read minds.

19. You learned a few Korean words and find pleasure in using the same words again and again and again.

20. You can explain everything in your own way even if you are not sure if you are correct or not.

21. You expect money from people who speaks English with you.

22. You can't remember how many times you said Why? How? What? as follow- up questions.

I cannot think of anything more for now. If you have the same crap like this one, feel free to post it here. What I mean is- you don't necessarily have to feel free... Feel anything you want, but the important thing is you post it. I'm really good in making simple things complicated. So if you think your life is simple, you know the person to contact or, just think again!
Today is yesterday tomorrow.

Lem me add...

... you start to smell like them, too..
... you start to claim that you have the famous american Aksent "daw"
... you start to look at a second or third glance when you see them in a mall..
... you start dating some of them...
... you start dreaming of going or working in their country...
... you start to manifest a kind of elite mentality coz youre teaching an international student..
    (duh!)
... you start to broaden your horizon that sweeps over the next mountain...
... you start to appreciate  their music
... you start joining this kind of forums ... to pour your so-called fountain of wisdom in the art of teaching and f%#*ng it up....
with echoes of deliverance....

im not teaching koreans [for all i care], but my bestfriend does. i came to observe a few 'manifestations' [as you termed it] during the times we met over bottles of beer. here:

-the moment she sits on her chair, she starts to blabber about her korean students [she didn't even bother to ask how's my life going on, hmp]
-she is now eating kimchi [errrrr..]
-according to her, her alcohol intake is increasing [coz her korean students do too]
-omg, her hairstyle is so much korean-inspired!
-she has to lie about her real age bcoz,  koreans have this seniority complex, duh
-she talks and talks about koreans, only until when i am nearly dozing off on my chair that she diverts her talk on other topics
-she's using korean terms [especially when she has drunk bottles of beers already]

meancreek, how do you this? : "I'm really good in making simple  things complicated. So if you think your life is simple, you know the  person to contact or, just think again!"

I sympathize with you. When I hangout with these guys they can't seem to avoid talking about their work. Try communicating with some Koreans and you'll understand, they kinda rub off on you. ;D

i'm not sure if the termination of your geneology would be the fault of the kimchi...... sorry but i had to ask,,,, you left the door wide open on that.

it's a matter of preference though. And i prefer not to prefer anything except to enjoy and do what i

have to do. I sympathize with those who don't have any choice but to endure.

From my brother...
- by the time you come home in the afternoon, you're sporting a strained voice box.
- you're imagining how you survived the whole day teaching a group class of 4 people...
- ...then you just say "wow!" to our filipino teachers who teach FIFTY (50) students..
- you start saying "anyong haseyow" everytime someone goes away.
- you're nonchalant news to your friend is you saw Roi Vinzon and his gorgeous car.. (BECI teach)
