TOPIC: BASKETBALL! CAN I PLAY?...NO YOU CANT

BASKETBALL! CAN I PLAY?...NO YOU CANT 5 years, 2 months ago #47800

There was a certain incident that happened in BECI where the teachers are banned from playing basketball. Why? So as not to cause trouble. I laughed at it. As I have said, it is okay to mete out a punishment towards erring teachers but the corresponding penalty must be conscionable and not arbitrary. If someone curtails your right to play basketball then what would you think of your other rights? Its a little bit scary to think about it  :o.

Mistakes do happen and contact goes on with sports. We cALL it a sport but the risk of colliding with your opponent is a given risk. hmmmm is it ok to play "touch the body" instead?

How do you know it was arbitrary?

The  term "right"  has always been misquoted since time immemorial to suit the ones being served.

not being a basketball player i would gladly give up my basketball rights for a good game of "touch the body". but do you think we could make it co-ed?

but regarding the basketball.... i might take an unpopular position here. but was it ever the right of the employees to use the facilities? it kinda goes with the same reasoning for not being allowed to use the upstairs door even tho students can. students are residents of green valley.

but having said that, i thought residents had the right to reserve the court to play basketball with whomever they want to play with (please don't make an issue over my likely misuse of whomever)

and so... even tho the teachers' right to play basketball hasn't exactly been trampled... hasn't the student's right to play basketball with their guests?

continuing with the reasoning that its the students' right, and crossing threads here to bring back up the connection between rights and responsibilites, then whatever student(s) reserve the court should (according to this line of thought) be responsible for whatever happens on the court during that time.
