A room without a book is like a body without a soul.

--Marcus Tullius Cicero

special thanks to ArchAugust for granting my special request... mwuah...

one of my first passions... reading... i've been asked once, kaya mo ba maikulong sa isang kwarto nang isang linggo... i said why not, just give me hundreds of books to read and lock me up in a room for a year... or forver... haha...

my favorite book is The Little Prince.  it's so simple and appealing to a child, to an adult it's simply an in your face slap... ahek... whatever that is...

next in line is The Alchemist by Paulo Coellho... changed my perspective forever...

nice thread, prid's!

don't know if I can consider myself as a bookworm, but I can't go to sleep unless I've read something in print. anything in hand, basta pwedeng basahin (mahilig din akong magbasa ng vandal sa CR. hehehe!). But I would extremely prefer reading than to sit down infront of the idiot's box, and would even stay up until 2am in the morning during school days just to finish a book (hayyy... sana lang text book ni Valix yun. haha!  :)

Favorite book? Little Women by Luisa May Alcott. Ang unang librong nagmulat ng aking sa mundo ng pagpapahalaga/pagmamahal ng pagbababasa noong 1993.

Stephen King fan po ako.

The “Little Prince” is a classic, I even got the movie (but it’s a musical), the child actor was perfect for the part..

Yng unang libro n Bob Ong cool din, ABNKKBSNPLK pati yng paboritong Libro ni Judas

I still like the Bible though, from the extraordinary laws in Leviticus to the appalling Book of Revelation, a book my grandfather considered non-fiction, he didn’t ask my opinion though so I stopped reading it..

Watership Down. Anyone familiar with this novel? ;D

This is Richard Adams's first and most popular novel. In literature, this book is classified as xenofiction (a specific genre of science fiction/fantasy in which the storyline includes characters  with species or cultures that differs greatly  from human society). Specifically, Watership Down casts rabbits as characters.

This is not the same with  animal fable since  xenofiction usually encompasses a larger breadth and depth of adventure.

Note the starting paragraph of the book:

"Long ago, the great Frith made the world. He made all the stars, and the Earth lived among the stars. He made all the animals and birds, and at first, he made them all the same. Now, among the animals in these days was El-Ahrairah, the prince of rabbits. He had many friends, and they all ate grass together. But after a time, the rabbits wandered everywhere, multiplying and eating as they went. Then Frith said to El-Ahrairah, 'Prince Rabbit, if you cannot control your people, I shall find ways to control them.' But El-Ahrairah would not listen. He said to Frith, 'My people are the strongest in the world.' This angered Frith, and he determined to get the better of El-Ahrairah. And so, he gave a present to every animal and bird, making each one different from the rest. When the fox came, and others, like the dog, and cat, hawk, and weasel, to each of them, Frith gave a fierce desire to hunt and kill the children of El-Ahrairah."

Incidentally, I've seen this kind of allegorical narrative at PowerBooks alabang  last year...  check it out if they still have a copy...

Do you know that we could actually order from national bookstore for some books that are hard to find? Although  it would be costly, its worth it.

i dont usually ditch myself to bestsellers but i do like James Michener's historical accounts. Lately, i just finished his The Drifters book.

but i have this book and i always bring it with me, it's titled The Bone People by Kerewin Hulme. had a nostalgic time reading it over and over again.

yah, The Little Prince is also a good book, making complicated things simple through the eyes of a child [Meancreek, you should read this since you claim to be good at making simple things complicated, this book might turn you the other way around].

manang peach, the painted house by john grisham is boring, hehe, wag mo na basahin.

anyone here who has any book by scott o'dell, esp the island of the blue dolphins? borrow man puhleesss....tenks!

Before, somebody told me about a book regarding the characters in Winnie the Pooh and their characteristics in relation to psychology. I think those characters really appear more than what they seem to be, especially Eeyore. I never really got a hold of that book.

My favorite book is also a classic, I don't know if they still reproduce it. I read it when I was in kindergaten, I can't remember vividly but the characters are cows. One character's name is "Mona". These cowa can jump over the moon. I use to color them too. Really the best book ever!
