Like breaktimes... 15 mins. or less. Actually there is no definite amount of time, as long as the rest is of reason then it is ok.

in other words, this depends on the company's policy but if you're working with the government...it's 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM Mon-Fri

but if you're a public teacher....the most interesting question is: HOW MUCH TIME DO YOU SPEND FOR YOURSELF  IN A WEEK?

answer: basta kawawa ang manga public teachers

They're not at all pityful actually.   Aside from their salary which doesnt fall extremely below poverty line...They receive city allowances and have access to almost all available loans and credit companies if they want to.. What makes them pityful is themselves... I know a lot who are respectable but I also know a few who degrade themselves...

The educ syst is partly responsible for this somehow... the no. of studtns  in a class... the ratio of books being used... and the politics inside the campus...

But in matters of time, the pub. schl teachers have all the time in their lives... they arent tied that much...

how come I said this?

I  served    a   secondary public schl for almost 3 yrs..

ok.. on on top of that... they are also currently receiving productivity pay, COLA, step increment adjustments and loyalty... my sources?

.. right from the horse's mouth...

But perhaps, it's your experience or hearsays from bitter pubscl teachers  which are  pityful...   which is misleading to generalize all.

so who's misleading who?

READ your statements AGAIN and find out who's making all the GENERALIZATIONS here.

btw, NOBODY is misleading WHO!

Perhaps I overgeneralized... but I do think that whether or not public schl teachers are pityful

depends on locations or regions where the teachers are serving...  I suppose it's the generated

city/provincial revenues   that may be regulating  their  income.

I stand corrected if this claim is questionable.

Nevertheless, I want to assert  that the above teacher benefits (which I wrote in the above thread )

are true as far as teachers from manila are concerned... I really dont have any idea about the

present  income/benefits  of pub.schl teachers from the provinces...

or

am I addressing the right issue which I inferred from your  statement:

"basta kawawa ang manga public teachers"

                             ?

this is the fact: you don't get rich if you're a public school teacher

besides, there are many factors that contribute to the stressful well-being of public school teachers...it's not just where their schools are located..consider this:

a. no overtime pay
b. use their own money to buy some materials
c. faced with BIG number of students in a very small classroom
d. chalk dust which is very very unhealthy
e. used as forefronts during risky and busy elections
f. FROZEN salary increment

PLUS

g.  15 volunteers/substitutes  fight  for ONE school ITEM to be eligible to the BENEFITS you mentioned

h. Obiviously, you have no idea how is it to be a public school teacher in the provinces....I DARE YOU TO APPLY....WORK EVEN FOR JUST A YEAR....then tell me HOW PITIFUL IS PITIFUL?!

i think many situations in manila are quite different than in the provinces. i've had the privilege to know some very rural teachers and visit some very rural schools. i'm not in a position to pity, but i am in a position to admire their dedication - not only dedication in teaching, but also dedication to even GET to the school building in some conditions.

regarding this:
their salary which doesnt fall extremely below poverty line...
i'm just curious how far below the poverty line IS pitiful?

have access to almost all available loans and credit companies
don't you have to pay those back? how does one do that if their salary is below the poverty line?

i wouldn't be surprised if it were a global truth that teachers are commonly exploited - especially public school teachers.  i think the difficulty is that in other jobs, if you're dissatisfied, you don't perform well, and the company suffers, so they improve conditions to keep productivity up. but with teaching, if you're dissatisfied and don't perform well, the students suffer. only over time would the poor performance reach its way back to making changes to improve teaching conditions for the purpose of improving test scores. and the nature of what makes a teacher want to teach is a care for the students. its not fair for the students to suffer because those in charge of the school don't provide for the teachers. and as the schools realize this they continue to play off it, knowing that if the teacher's mad, they can still push harder until the students are affected, and still harder until the school's financial status is affected.
