I still need to refute:
1. It is true that not all people with cancer feel afraid and feel depressed....but certainly you won't feel PROUD AND HAPPY about ithe situation especially when you came to know about it, would you?
What does this mean??It means that it is NORMAL for these people to feel what is opposite!
SECONDLY, there are always DIFFERENCES to what is norm. You are normal in a sense that you feel something; now there is a difference between how you deal with those feelings!
question: Is it NORMAL to have different views on different situations?? Obviously, the answer is YES!
Apparently, I think you're trying to make a very good point under a wrong guise!
2. NORMAL is different from what is LAWFUL!
There is a difference between what is normal and what is natural. It is natural for people to feel differently form other people. But like you said in some sense, they also feel some sort of similarity- that is what they call the "normal". Furthermore, a person who wants to take his life can be happy if he is diagnosed with cancer since he will not be burdened of taking his own life... That's a possibility.
What is your normal reaction when you see a horrifying event? You feel horrified right? But not everybody feels that way, some may find pleasure in it. If most people find pleasure in it... then, the majority becomes the normal. So normal is just like a dictate of the majority or the influential. It is just a means of justifying without much reasoning.
So I'll ask you, why do you disagree? The best answer: That's normal!
Normal is definitely different from lawful, why did "lawful" came into play here anyway?
