so i had this confusion when i went to cebu. they got the lapu lapu monument there. they also have another one in manila. it pays tribute to lapu lapu for turning away the spanish conquerors.

they also seem to love magellan because he brought christianity and everything.

i fail to understand how both could be equally loved, given that they were enemies.

  Lapu-lapu was a native chief from Mactan fighting for the invaders.
  The statue of lapu lapu was  infront while Magellan`s monument
  was just at the  background in Mactan Island,Cebu.

  Okey, Magellan was remembered for having discovered the
  archipelago of what is known as the Philippines.
  But unknown to the western world before its discovery.

Both are great, though maybe we owe Magellan more for spreading Christianity here. But Lapu Lapu's cool too like he's the guy who totally whacked the first man to ever circumnavigate the globe. Magellan's guys must have looked too much the conquistadors they were so what could a freedom loving person could do?

I'm for Lapu Lapu... It's not everyday that when a person sees a stranger in the shore, he whacks them and drives them away... So much for being diplomatic.  :
