Sadomasochism at Play:

The persona's strong imperative "kill me.." suggests a gratification of pleasure from an inflicted pain or injury. There is no resistance " I can't let go, Smiling, I took every blow"; only submission.

The line, "One more or several won't hurt me so" indicates the  anesthetized sensation of  pain.

The lines "It's only with you that I exist, Your hands I held, your lips I kissed" aptly enhanced the gratification felt to the point of adoring it's source (the "you")..

And if the "I" persona is a masochists its co-existing persona the,  "you" interrelates as the sadist.

"the beautiful poison with the twist" captures the symbolic emobodiment of the whole text.


And finally the "jack and Jill" quote  provides a harrowing  allusion which caps the thematic syndrome which the poem manifests.

The seemingly innocent nursery actually goes like this:


Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of water;
Jack fell down  and broke his crown, And Jill came tumbling after

(Jill seemingly enjoys the sight that jack was getting injured that she just came tumbling.)

Then up Jack got and home did trot, As fast as he could caper;
to old Dame Dob, who patched his nob With vinegar and brown paper
When Jill came in, how  she did grin To see Jack's paper plaster; (A sadistic manifestation)

Her mother, vexed, did whip her next,
For laughing at Jack's disaster. Now Jack did laugh (gratified pain)  and Jill did cry,
But her tears did soon abate; (how fast!)

Then Jill did say, That they should play
At see-saw across the gate.

(as if nothing happened... this is its perversion)
