ei, my office cpu junk was replaced, well, by somthin a lot better and newer... too bad it didn't come with its freaky drivers and stuff. okay, so i contacted our IT dep and they came and tinkered with it.. sheesh, they only managed to install the AC97 audio, so the sound is doing fine but the video aint. Okay, I still can use my unit properly, but you know... I really cannot put myself at ease seeing the yellow question mark in the device manager.

Here's the prob: the video is, uhh, shared memory? yeah, I think that's the term. basta hindi sha external. sorry for my lingo. So, I tried downloading VGA drivers on the 'net, yet I still get the same (or sorta same) messages that they can't install because of some missing stuff...

any idea how could I go on about it?

You sure you got the right video driver?

Since it doesn't have an external video card, you can look at the embedded video (card?) at the motherboard and look for it's brand and model number (like S3, SIS or something). Or you can try catching the video card type it flashes on screen when you do a POST and do a search on that.

But I guess if you've already done that and the driver doesn't work, you're probably screwed.

POST = Power-On-Self-Test

That's what's when your computer starts up and do system checks is called. Usually it shows the video details first and checks RAM next.

oh my... excuse me for my pun... my ignorance is showing... tee hee...  :uglystupid:

uhm, I think they did something that the POST thing doesn't show up. I mean, I know what it is, but it ain't what is showing at start-up. Wait, I will try to catch on the first few words later...

but anyway, do you recommend any drivers for, uhh, shared memory video thingie? I know it should be easier if it was external, but dang, they opted for shared instead and plugged a 512 memory stick. geez.. It could've been better kung separate sana.. ayyeh.. ay apo..

so, recommend anything? a download link would be much much appreciated. Hey, if you're from BSU, then I'm working at your alma mater.. tat tum tat tum..

hail BSU, Alma Mater we adoooooooreee...

If you have on-board video, then its drivers should come with the motherboard's drivers. Look for the mobo's brand and model (ex. EP-9GF6100-M) and do a search on that. If the manufacturer has a site, you should be able to find it.

About BSU, yeah I graduated there not that I care much about it, I just went to college to get a degree like normal. Based on experience, the admins there have no faith in their own students that they'd rather hire people from other schools (if they don't have an employee/officer relative that is).

Try downloading it thru http:

download.asrock.com/drivers/VIA/VGA/VGA_XP_2K_P4M800(16.94.44.09).zip

Otherwise you might want to look into proxy sites and/or proxy software.

hey! the download is working! all riiiight!!!

thanks, m'man.. I'll wait and see what happens next...

I remember once that the IT teachers of BSU talked me into sitting, even questioning, on one of some sorta "defense" of students.. you know, similar to those thesis defense things... yeah, so I went there and I saw, if I remember right, Mr. Tampoa... uhh.. Mr. Dom-ogen.. ahh, basta.. The students did some thesis on payroll program, and they chose to study/improve the payroll program I was formerly (been transferred of office) handling. And I get to listen also to the students & teachers' woes regarding how the IT course is being handled in here.. Like shortage and stuff.. you know. (hey, dowana talk dat much, I may be watched..  ;D)

Well, I'm happy you found your niche with Megalopolis bro. Seems like you have enough time to hold this site and help elementary-computer-knowledge rugrats like moi.. thanks...

Always glad to help.

About the IT situation there, there's like a huge difference between the IT instructors there and from other schools. Sorry to our dear ma'ams and sirs but it's true. Like we once had a teacher from SLU for one subject and he was the only one who really knew what he was talking about.

I'm actually resigned from Megalopolis now as I'm done with being an employee. I'm a full-fledged unemployed dude but I'm proud to say I'm making a lot more now than I'd ever will as an employee. A lot of IT people out there are selling themselves short by working for limited salaries when they can be not-limited by working on their own.

hmm.. no wonder they dont, uhh, trust some of their studes.

You make much more being unemployed???? oh my... that's my freaking dream to, y'know! I mean, it's a common knowledge you need not stick your @$$ up 8-5 everyday to be productive. Sheesh.. some do only 2 hours for a day, some, well, takes up as much as the whole 24. But the point is, they do enjoy what they do! bet you feel the same too, huh?

anyametten.. makapaapal ka met ading...

keep on rocking the free world.
