Ok.. first hand experience.. Last Thursday, July 13,  PNRC - Benguet went out on a relief operation for the strandees of the Halsema Highway closure. I was one of the volunteers. From  La Trinidad, first major slide encountered was at Km. 35. Through the initiative of Mayor N. Fongwan, who was there as the Chairman of PNRC-Benguet and Chairman of Mayor's League, the problem was solved at around 9PM. Farmers were able to bring their veges to market but payed with wasted time and some wasted veges too.

Several minor slides litter the stretch of Halsema. We rested at Mayor Balao's house at Atok. After that, we continued on towards Calasipan landslide which was fixed by that time. Then came Pakpakitan. Major landslide which eventually turned into a washout. Footpath was "carved" through the eroded mountain face which was 3-inches deep mud. Other footpaths were made in several locations.

Transport from La Trinidad to Buguias is possible by transferring. First stop is through the Madaymen diversion road up the Farmer's Trading establishment. just near the eroded site, passengers will start a 20-minutes-or-so walk to the other side of the eroded mountain near a school. First trip costs Php95 and another payment for the next trip. Passengers are advised to wear rain coat and boots if it's raining.

The mountain is still in danger of erosion since cracks were observed all over the place.

This report is based upon my first-hand experience. Reliability of the info is in the descrision of the reader.
