I have no concrete opinion yet bout this article... wanna share it lang...

http://www.aworldconnected.org/Stories/id.1906/story_detail.asp

Just to give a brief overview, it speaks of a foreigner's (aussie i think) journey  to the city of pines to study poverty... There were interesting thingamahjig regarding poverty between rural areas and urban areas... Nice political insights... Hmmm... He also describes the roads of Baguio... lol... not too accurately... a bit exaggerated i'd say... un lang... la ako sa mood mag-isip, i have an exam later...

sadly, we need to be told by foreigners what really is happening.

just my opinion anyway.

exactly my sentiments... maybe we really need not be told coz deep inside we know it but we do not acknowledge it... the truth hurts ika nga...  and to quote:

"How do you feel about the government?" he asked. Much eye rolling and head nodding ensued as Steve smiled and made an exaggerated motion of taking their money and putting it in his pocket, representing the government. Steve did his best to explain to them why he was here, studying microfinance for the U.S. government. "We want government to be as responsible with money as you are, the way that you have to," he said.

While these larger issues of political corruption may seem totally irrelevant to someone who doesn't know where his family's next meal is coming from, Steve has repeatedly found that exactly the opposite is true. Again I'm sure Steve's hasn't exactly quantified this, and heaven knows I'm not about to devise any econometric models, but judging from his informal conversations with the poor in the Philippines they are well attuned to corruption. Corruption, or even the perception of corruption, can be devastating to burgeoning enterprise. Among the poor, many are afraid to either start a business (it's just one more thing the government can take from them) or grow their business if they already have one (once the business gets to a certain size they'll have to register it and be taxed and the government will take it away from them). In the Philippines, they've been either exploited by colonialists or corrupt governments their entire history-they have no reason not to be cynical and scared.

and to close the statement... it sucks to be poor...

pridian typing here... lol... forgot to log him out...
