We cant feel freedom at this point of time for the country's tied in chains of poverty and those people in power doesnt seem to do anything to help it. so most filipinos care about their everyday basic needs than to to care about independence. like the Cordis, they never been conquered until the missionaries came and was allowed to stay, eventually came the foreign rule. the villagers in the mountains just go on their daily lives and even dont know who is the president now but still they live with pride!Their land is their right and their life is their right!,now came the corrupt people in the govt.the men in uniform of brutality, they are trying to convince the people to believe in them but how do we believe them if they kill the people. We are hospitable as they say,so whoever comes to the villages and are hungry and thirsty,we give them food and water coz they are humans too. The govt accuse the villagers of being rebel symphatizers for giving them food, water and shelter(They are humans) when they do thesame when the men in uniform comes by. See what I mean, the sense of equality is right there! The villagers don't have enemy but if you treat them bad They will retaliate. oh back to Independence, Braveheart's Willam wallace said!! FREEDOM!!
When we say "Independence Day", it is the situation wherein we are free from foreign domination, just like the Spanish, American and Japanese Rule, I mean we are not controlled by any foreign power or country where their own flags fly in our homeland. The true sense of this celebration is for us to remember that there was a time that our country was ruled by a foreign power and so many Filipinos sacrificed their own lives just to drive away the invaders and foreign rulers. Let us accept the fact that there were some cases of human rights violations and extra-judicial killings and also the suppression of our right to express ourselves freely, but these should not be associated with the Independence Day we are celebrating. Let us respect the bravery and sacrifices of our Filipino brothers and sisters just to let our country have the true independence....Â
